Are you looking for beaches for families in Abruzzo? This region has a number of suitable beaches for every taste. From the wide and sandy ones of the north coast (from Francavilla and Pescara to the border with the Marche) to the wilder and more varied ones of the south coast (from Ortona towards Vasto and San Salvo, therefore the Costa dei Trabocchi.

There are also several beaches that are easier to reach and better equipped which allow excellent enjoyment especially for families with children. There are numerous family-friendly accommodation facilities on the coast.

In this short list we suggest 9, well aware that there are many others (depending on the type of holiday you want to do with the children) that we invite you to write them in the comments.

Here are some beaches for families in Abruzzo that you could visit

South coast

  • Vasto Marina: it is the best-equipped beach of those belonging to the municipality of Vasto. Here you can find all the services, bathing establishments, refreshment areas, restaurants as well as numerous car parks in the immediate vicinity of the beach.
  • Punta Penna beach: falls within the Punta Aderci Regional Nature Reserve and is a beach. Here the main services such as shade, deck chairs, etc. are absent (there are still bathrooms and water in the information point area near the port entrance). But it is suitable for children due to the quality of the water, the softness of the sand and the conformation of the seabed which degrades very slowly, making the bathrooms particularly safe. During the summer season, the lifeguard service is also guaranteed. This beach has received the Green Flag, recognition from pediatricians
  • Lido Riccio in Ortona. It is a beach with very fine sand and a very shallow seabed, a feature that makes it ideal for children. The water is almost always perfectly clean. This makes it possible to do water activities such as snorkelling without going too far from the breakwater barrier which is often quite populated with fish. The beach is wide and the presence of many services that can be used.

North coast

  • Pescara: the beach of Pescara receives the Green Flag, recognition from Italian pediatricians for the best child-friendly beaches
  • Roseto degli Abruzzi: the beach of Roseto degli Abruzzi, also known as “Lido delle Rose”. It is characterized by very fine sand and has received the Blue Flag since 1999. Since the birth of seaside tourism, at the beginning of the last century, the beach of Roseto degli Abruzzi is a holiday resort. It is currently one of the best known and most popular seaside resorts in Abruzzo. Families with children can find, in addition to a wide beach and a clean sea, modern hotels for families as well as various possibilities for recreation, relaxation, entertainment combined with sporting activities.
  • Tortoreto: perhaps the most comfortable destination for families. Its coast holds the Abruzzo record for Blue Flags. It has also received the Green Flag of Pediatricians and the Yellow Flag of Cycling Municipalities, for its track surrounded by nature and equipped with various play areas.
  • Giulianova: in addition to the Blue Flag, the Paediatrician Green Flag was awarded, which signals particularly baby-friendly coasts. Its beach is long, sandy and full of services and equipped establishments.
  • Pineto-Torre Cerrano: Pineto beach stands out for its golden sand and particularly clean sea. It is a beach that has been awarded the Blue Flag for several years and Legambiente has included it in its special ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
  • Montesilvano: this beach, in addition to holding the Green Flag, recognition by Italian pediatricians for the best child-friendly beaches, is a large, well-equipped beach with all the necessary services.
