Castelsardo is a charming town located in the province of Sassari, in the autonomous region of Sardinia, in Italy. It is a picturesque medieval village located on the north-western coast of the island, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Here are some of its main features:

  • Castelsardo Castle: The historic center of Castelsardo is dominated by its imposing castle, which was built by the Doria family in the 12th century. This castle offers spectacular panoramic views of the city and the surrounding coast.
  • Historic Center: The historic center of Castelsardo is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, arches, and picturesque alleys. It is the perfect place to walk and discover the unique atmosphere of this medieval village.
  • Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate: This cathedral, built in the 18th century, is another important landmark and features charming architecture and an interior decorated with period stucco work.
  • Mediterranean Weaving Museum: This museum is dedicated to the art of weaving, a centuries-old tradition of Castelsardo. You will be able to see examples of baskets, rugs and other handmade creations.
  • Beaches and Sea: Castelsardo also offers beautiful beaches, such as Lu Bagnu Beach, where you can relax and bathe in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean.

How to visit this place?

To visit Castelsardo, you can fly to Alghero-Fertilia airport, which is about an hour’s drive from the city. Once there, you can rent a car or use public transport services to reach the village.

As for the recommended period to visit Castelsardo, spring and autumn are ideal. During these periods, temperatures are pleasant, not too hot, and there are fewer tourists than in summer. Summer is still a good option if you want to enjoy the beaches and sea, but there may be more crowds. However, keep in mind that some shops or restaurants may be closed during the low season, so check opening dates if you plan to visit specific attractions.
