The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is a church located in Pianella, a town in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The church dates back to the 12th century and is one of the most important monuments of the town.
The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore has a Romanesque architectural style with Gothic elements. The main facade is decorated with a large circular rose window and a carved stone portal, surmounted by an architrave with a depiction of the Annunciation.
Inside the church, you can admire several frescoes dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, including the Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist, the Last Supper and a Crucifixion.
Furthermore, the church preserves some very valuable works of art, including a statue of the Virgin and Child dating back to the 16th century, a canvas depicting the Madonna del Rosario from the 17th century and a pipe organ from the 18th century.
The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the main tourist attractions of Pianella and is definitely worth a visit to admire its beauty and history.
