The Church of Sant’Ampelio is a fascinating religious building located in Bordighera, in Liguria, Italy. The church is dedicated to Sant’Ampelio, the patron saint of the city, and is considered one of the main places of worship in the area.

This church is a remarkable example of Lombard Romanesque architecture and dates back to the 12th century. It is characterized by a simple but elegant façade, with a central portal surmounted by a circular rose window. The interior has a single nave with frescoes, decorations and sacred furnishings of great historical and artistic interest.

How to visit the Church of Sant’Ampelio?

To visit the Church of Sant’Ampelio, you can go directly to Bordighera. The city is located along the Ligurian coast, about 10 kilometers west of San Remo. You can reach it by car via the A10 motorway or by train, with Bordighera railway station located nearby.

Once in Bordighera, the church is located in the upper part of the city, on the hill called “Capo Sant’Ampelio”. You could choose to reach it on foot following a path that starts from the historic center or using the public lift that connects the seafront to the church area.

What is the best period?

As for the recommended period to visit this place, we advise you to consider spring or autumn. During these seasons, the climate in Liguria is generally mild and pleasant, and you can enjoy your visit without facing excessive temperatures or tourist crowds.

However, keep in mind that the church is open all year round, so you can visit it during other seasons as well, depending on your preferences and availability. I advise you to check the opening hours during the period in which you intend to visit, as they may vary according to local holidays or events.
