The Volto Santo (Holy Face) of Manoppello, an important relic located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The Holy Face of Manoppello is a sacred icon that would represent the face of Christ.

It is believed to have been the shroud that covered Jesus’ face during his burial. The image on the shroud shows the face of a bearded man with wounds and signs of suffering. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the image appears to be imprinted on a very thin silk veil, making the image itself almost three-dimensional when examined closely.

The relic is kept in the Basilica del Volto Santo in Manoppello, a small town in Abruzzo located in the province of Pescara. The basilica is a place of pilgrimage for the Catholic faithful and for those interested in spirituality. It is possible to visit the Volto Santo throughout the year.

How to admire the Holy Face?

To reach Manoppello, you can take a train to Pescara, which is the closest city with a well-connected train station. From Pescara, there are regional buses or trains that will take you to Manoppello. It is also possible to reach Manoppello by car, taking the A25 motorway and exiting at Scafa-Manoppello.

Upon arrival in Manoppello, you can visit the Basilica and admire the relic. Inside the basilica, there are spaces dedicated to prayer and meditation. You should dress appropriately and respectfully when visiting a sacred site.

What is the best time to visit?

There are no specific times recommended for visiting this place, as the basilica is open all year round. However, if you wish to avoid busy times, you may consider visiting during weekdays or outside the tourist season.

Remember that the Holy Face of Manoppello is a relic of great religious importance, so it is important to show respect and behave appropriately during your visit.
