In this short article with pleasure we recommend an itinerary in Abruzzo, which develops in the area of the Val di Sangro and the Maiella mountains and we invite you to visit these places that will leave you speechless for their beauty and uniqueness.

Itinerary in Abruzzo, between Valleys and Maiella

It begins with the village of Roccascalegna on which stands one of the most particular and magical castles in Italy, motionless on a spur of rock. Visit its interior (for a fee). Let the guides tell you the most famous legend that hovers in the Roccascalegna Castle has Corvo de Corvis and the “Jus Primae Noctis” as protagonists. The “Jus Primae Noctis” medieval practice for which every new bride of the Feud of Roccascalegna had to spend the first wedding night with him instead of with her husband. Visit the rooms with medieval weapons and that of torture. Climb to the top of the tallest tower to admire the surrounding landscape.

Move only a few kilometers and reach the village of Montebello sul Sangro which dominates the abandoned village of Buonanotte. Here, walking in the silence of the ruins, you can admire some modern art installations and proceed following the path of San Francesco Caracciolo. Have you heard the radio playing in the abandoned house yet?

Proceeding towards Lama dei Peligni (also famous for its tasty Sfogliatella) stop for some photos at the church of and then arrive in the natural park of Acque Vive. Stop for a little relaxation and a picnic on the banks of the “live” river always with plenty of water. The Sorgente delle Acquevive and the related river park, born on the two banks of the Aventino river, are one of the places in Abruzzo that you should definitely visit on your next trip or vacation. Since 2012, the Park has been enriched with an equipped fitness trail, a picnic area, a playground, vegetable gardens and a sales point for local products
