The village of Pitigliano in the province of Grosseto in Tuscany. It sprouted in an artistically orderly way on the tuff from a rocky volcanic outcrop that dominates the surrounding town. Its hilltop location is spectacular as it is surrounded by deep gorges on three sides, which gives it the appearance of a “natural fortress”.

Inside the city of Pitigliano you can pleasantly get lost in the winding stairs that disappear around corners. You will be able to stroll through the narrow alleys, the graceful arches and the memories of the ancient Jewish community of the city are still alive thanks to a 16th-century synagogue and a unique local cuisine that has its roots with a Jewish flavor.

What to visit nearby Pitigliano?

Here are some of the tourist attractions you can visit near this place:

  • Sovana: an ancient medieval village located a few kilometers south of the village, with the remains of an ancient Etruscan city and an imposing medieval cathedral.
  • Sorano: another medieval village located south of the village, known for its caves, the remains of an ancient Roman theater and a medieval castle.
  • The Albegna Valley: a valley rich in natural beauty, with rivers and waterfalls, which extends from the village towards the sea.
  • Terme di Saturnia: one of the most famous spa resorts in Tuscany, located less than half an hour’s drive to the south.
  • The Archaeological Museum of Southern Tuscany: a museum that houses important archaeological finds from Tuscany, including some from the village and from the Albegna Valley.

These are just some of the tourist attractions you can visit. We hope this list helps you plan your trip!
