Umbria is a beautiful medieval village located in the Umbria region of central Italy. It is mainly known for its historical and architectural beauty, but also for its culture and traditions. It is famous for its beautiful old town, with narrow winding streets, ancient buildings and richly decorated churches.

Città della Pieve is famous for its cobbled streets, its ancient buildings, its narrow alleys and its charming squares. One of the most suggestive places in the village is the central square, Piazza Matteotti, which has been described as one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. Here is also the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi, which is one of the most important monuments of the village.

Città della Pieve and the Perugino

The village is also known for being the birthplace of the famous Italian painter Pietro Vannucci, better known as il Perugino. His most famous work, the Sistine Chapel fresco cycle, was completed with the collaboration of his most famous pupil, Michelangelo.

Furthermore, Città della Pieve is famous for its gastronomy, which includes specialties such as pasta with truffles, wild boar and local wine. The city is also famous for its annual chocolate festival, held in October.

When to visit the village of Città della Pieve?

The village can be visited all year round, but the best season to visit it is spring or autumn, when temperatures are milder and the climate is pleasant. However, the summer period can be very busy with tourists, so it might be best to avoid it if you want to avoid the crowds.
