What to visit in Rome in January? In January, in Rome there are many interesting things and places to visit and experiences to do. Some options could be:

  • Visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum: two of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, located in the heart of Rome.
  • Climb the Dome of St. Peter: the view from the top of the dome of St. Peter’s basilica is an unforgettable experience.
  • Walking along the Tiber: The Tiber River flows through the center of Rome and offers a panoramic view of the city.
  • Discover the Pantheon: one of the oldest and best preserved monuments in Rome, with an impressive dome 43 meters in diameter.
  • Visit the National Roman Museum: housed in three important sites in Rome (Palazzo Massimo, Crypta Balbi and Baths of Diocletian), the museum houses one of the most important collections of ancient art in the world.
  • Taste the Roman cuisine: try the famous dishes of the Roman culinary tradition, such as cacio e pepe, carbonara and supplì.

If you want to go a little outside of Rome, you might consider visiting some of the treasures of the Lazio region, such as the Circeo National Park, the catacombs of San Callisto and the Castello di Bracciano.

What is the climate like in January in Rome?

The climate in Rome in January is mild and not very rainy. Average temperatures during the day range from 7 to 12 degrees Celsius, while during the night they can drop to 0 degrees. Rainfall is infrequent during this time of year, but warm, waterproof clothing is still recommended. Even though it’s the coldest time of the year, there’s still plenty to do and see in Rome in January, so don’t let the weather put you off visiting this wonderful city.
