The Monsters Park in Bomarzo, also called Sacro Bosco or Villa delle Meraviglie of Bomarzo, in the province of Viterbo, is an Italian monumental complex.

It is a natural park adorned with numerous peperino sculptures dating back to the 16th century and portraying mythological animals, deities and monsters.

Where is it

The Bomarzo Monster Park, inside the Bomarzo Forest, is located in the province of Viterbo in the homonymous locality of Bomarzo.

Bomarzo Monster Park, when to visit it?

The best time to visit the Bomarzo Monster Park and the Sacred Bosco of Bomarzo is during spring and autumn. In these seasons, in the monster garden, the climate is mild and the vegetation is lush, offering an ideal natural spectacle for exploring the evocative sculptures and unique landscape of the park.

The Park is open every day of the year continuously, from Monday to Sunday.

Opening time:

  • November, December, January, February: 09:00 – 17:00
  • From March (with summer time) to September: 09:00 – 19:00
  • October: 09:00 – 18:00

The last entry is allowed one hour before closing.

On December 25th the Park remains closed.

How much is the ticket?

At the time of writing this article, single entry costs 13 euros for the internal ticket, 8 euros for children aged 4 to 13 and free for 100% disabled and non-self-sufficient people. For groups (minimum 30 people) the price per person drops to 11 euros, with 1 free ticket for every 30 paying people and 1 free ticket for the bus driver.

For further information we recommend that you consult the official page of the Park.

How to reach it

The park is located near the town of Bomarzo of the same name in the province of Viterbo. In the navigator you can enter the address “Loc. Giardino – 01020 Bomarzo – Viterbo”.

To reach it by car you can use the A1 Autostrada del Sole using the Orte exits from the south and Attigliano both from the north and the south and then follow the clear local directions.

If you don’t have a car, Bomarzo is not so easy to reach by public transport. You can opt for a rental with driver (NCC) available from Rome (Fiumicino, Ciampino, Termini or Tiburtina) to the Park, or by train.

By train, you can get off independently at the Orte Scalo or Viterbo stations and from here take a public bus to Bomarzo. For timetables and fares, we recommend visiting the Trenitalia and Cotral websites.

Some suggestions for you

Are dogs allowed?

Unfortunately no animals are allowed in the Park. The only exception is for guide dogs for blind people.

Is it possible to take photos and videos?

It is not permitted to make videos or take photos if these are for commercial purposes. For personal photos and videos, however, these can be taken but without the use of flash or illuminators. Entry to the park with tripod or similar tools requires authorization from the management.

How can I book a guided tour?

Yes, but you need to book it in advance. Contact park management for this.

Can tickets be purchased online?

Yes, you can purchase entrance tickets online. The electronic procedure is on this page.

What to visit in the surrounding area?

In the surroundings of Bomarzo, there are many fascinating attractions to visit. The ghost village of Chia offers a mysterious and evocative atmosphere, while the Chia Waterfalls and the Chia Tower are perfect for nature and history lovers. The Monte Casoli Nature Reserve is ideal for excursions and observation of the local fauna.

Furthermore, the villages of Soriano nel Cimino, Vitorchiano, Bassano in Teverina and Sipicciano offer an authentic experience with their picturesque streets, medieval architecture and local traditions. Each village has its own unique charm, making the visit an unforgettable journey into the heart of Italy.

We hope that this mini guide will be useful for organizing a trip to the Monster Park of Bomarzo and also visiting its surroundings which are truly worth a visit. Let us know what you think and have a good trip!
