It is an itinerary suitable for everyone, even for families with children and that will make you experience the heart of the Abruzzo National Park. Depart from Barrea where you can visit the ancient village and the Castle. Don’t forget to take the usual photo on the balcony overlooking the lake. Then it begins to descend towards the lake and arrives at Villetta Barrea, here it is not uncommon to see deer in the village. Take direction Scanno and start to climb. To reach Scanno (about 30 km away from Villetta Barrea) you will have to climb up to an altitude of 1500 meters, arriving at Passo Godi (in winter there are ski slopes in operation, in summer you stop for a coffee), here you will see the landscape change and become more bleak and surreal. Start to descend to Scanno.

Once in the town, visit the ancient village, the churches, the alleys and don’t forget to taste the famous chocolate mostacciolo. If you have time, from the village, the Sentiero del Cuore (Path of the Heart) begins, the one that will make you see the heart-shaped lake. Consider that to walk the path, take pictures and go back, it will take about 2 hours. At the end of the tour, go down from the village towards the lake where you can relax on the banks, taste an ice cream or rent canoes or pedal boats to sail on the lake.
