Umbria. How to reach the Menotre waterfalls? Place of departure, times and tips

The Menotre river – which originates from the sources of the Favuella ditch, at 800 m asl and of Monte Mareggia – is considered a high hill watercourse and its course develops in the mountainous area of the Foliglio area.

Near the town of Rasiglia, the Menotre is enriched by various tributary waters and begins its run in the valley, enlarging the size of its water bed.

When the river reaches the territory of Pale di Foligno it begins its series of suggestive and “sonorous” waterfalls towards the valley below enriched by thick vegetation

How to get to the Menotre waterfalls?

To get to see the Menotre waterfalls you can do it in three different ways, that is, starting from different points.
If you have little desire to walk, you can get to the Altolina di Menotre car park and proceed on foot and in a few minutes you will arrive at the falls.

If you want to take a longer walk, you can start from Belfiore (where you can also park your car) and take a route of about 2 hours which will be uphill on the outward and downhill on the return. You can also opt for the departure from Pale, but the route will be downhill on the outward and uphill on the return.

If you like fluvial environments, we recommend that you also visit the village of Rasiglia, called the “little Venice” which is located right near the sources of the river Menotre.
