What we tell and recommend you in this short article is an itinerary in Abruzzo that you can experience during a single day, perfect for a trip with family or friends. The itinerary takes place on the slopes of the Maiella Mountains, inside the National Park recently designated Unesco World Geopark

Read here all the Maiella Park Trails. Here is the (really) complete list, +190 trails – 1200 km

The Orfento Valley Nature Reserve is a real “Eden”. Much of the reserve is in the municipality of the famous spa town of Caramanico Terme. The protected area, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, wild and spectacular areas in the whole of Abruzzo, includes a large area with differences in height and heights ranging from 500 to 2,600 m. of altitude. The valley is covered with immense and lush beech woods crossed by numerous canyons rich in water and thundering waterfalls (Read more)

Visiting the Grotta Scura (Dark Grotto) you will be able to discover important evidence of the Neolithic period. This cave can be considered as a “fossil river”, that is, a cavity generated by the ancient flow of water with signs of both human presence and cave animals.

The Grotta Scura overlooks an incredible canyon that was dug by the Orta river during millions of years characterized by imposing vertical walls on which it is possible to see several other caves (Read more)

Path 1 (coincides with the stretch of path B4) connects Fonte Lama Bianca with Fonte della Fratta. This path is a path designed and built in the 1980s by the State Forestry Corps for the disabled, which is also well suited to the needs of families with small children or who are not yet able to walk alone. The whole route winds through the Lama Bianca beech forest. To start the path, from S. Eufemia to Maiella, continue towards Passo San Leonardo, and turn left at the road sign for Lama Bianca (Read more)
