How to get to Favignana? Favignana is also called “Isola dei Poveri” (“Island of the Poor”) and is the main island of the archipelago of the Egadi islands. It is located about 7 km from the west coast of Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala.

The traditional Mediterranean architecture of the island, characterized by white plasters and blue or green windows, are, especially in recent years, the object of rediscovery and enhancement, the landscape is in fact protected by the superintendence of cultural heritage.

The island, mainly covered by Mediterranean scrub consisting of bushy shrubs and pine woods, has established itself as an important tourist destination.

How to get to Favignana?

The only way to get to the island of Favignana is by sea. It is therefore necessary to embark on a ferry or hydrofoil departing from Marsala or Trapani. Now let’s see by what means you can reach Favignana up to the two aforementioned ports of boarding (Marsala or Trapani).

By Car

You can arrive by car, reaching the embarkation ports of Trapani or Marsala, from Palermo (with about an hour’s journey) or from Messina to Trapani (in about 3 and a half hours). The car can be embarked from the port of Trapani on one of the many ferries departing for Favignana.

By Plane

You can reach Sicily from the main Italian airports and you can land in Trapani, Catania or Palermo. Obviously the closest airport to Favignana is Trapani and it is certainly the best solution since from the airport you can directly reach the port for boarding the ferry. From the other Sicilian airports it is necessary to take a bus to Trapani and reach the port for boarding the ferry to Favignana.

By Boat

Another solution to reach Sicily and, from here, Favignana, is to choose a trip by ship departing from the ports of Naples, Genoa, Livorno, Cagliari, Civitavecchia and Salerno whose main routes reach Palermo. From the Sicilian capital you will therefore have to arrive in the port of Trapani by bus or car and embark for Favignana.

By Train

To reach Trapani and from here embark for Favignana, you can also choose the train. From any Italian railway station there are trains that reach Sicily and Trapani. From Trapani railway station you will have to reach the port either by walking for about fifteen minutes or by opting for a comfortable taxi and from the port take a ferry to Favignana.
